WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says if Afghanistan wants more U.S. aid, it will have to do more to reduce corruption. Clinton tells ABC's "This Week" that the Obama administration wants a tribunal to prosecute major corruption crimes and a new anti-corruption commission. She says there must also be more accountability as to where the aid is going.
BAGHDAD (AP) — There's fresh doubt today about whether Iraq will be able to hold nationwide elections in January, as planned. Iraq's Sunni Arab vice president says he cannot approve the country's election law unless changes are made to give Iraqis living abroad more guaranteed seats in parliament. JERUSALEM (AP) — Palestian officials say peace talks with Israel are going nowhere, so they're getting ready to ask the United Nations to endorse an independent Palestinian state. That's prompted a vow of retaliation from Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his government will respond with its own unilateral steps if that happens. WASHINGTON (AP) — The top Republican on the House intelligence committee says putting five accused 9/11 plotters on trial in New York City would give them "a platform to push their ideology." Michigan Rep. Pete Hoekstra (HUK'-struh) tells CBS' "Face the Nation" that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (HAH'-leed shayk moh-HAH'-med) will turn the proceeding into a circus. Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed, a Democrat, says the proceedings will be a vindication of America's "basic values." ROME (AP) — Iran's first lady has made a rare public appearance and an even rarer speech in Rome. One the eve of a U.N. summit to fight hunger, the wife of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (ah-muh-DEE'-neh-zhahd) appeared at a forum of wives of heads of state.
