Myanmar must hold credible elections...Zelaya says no deal...Bid to ease tensions

SINGAPORE (AP) — President Barack Obama and his Southeast Asian counterparts are calling on Myanmar's rulers to hold credible elections. But in a joint statement to be issued after a summit, they stopped short of demanding the release of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi (ahng sahn soo chee) and other political prisoners.

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) — The ousted leader of Honduras says he will not accept any deal to restore him to the presidency if it means he must recognize elections later this month. Manuel Zelaya (zuh-LY'-uh) says he's not willing to go along with any agreement that would "cover up" the coup that deposed him June 28.

BOGOTA (AP) — The Venezuelan government says four of its National Guard troops captured in Colombian territory will be repatriated in a bid to ease tensions between the neighboring countries. Colombia says its navy intercepted the men Friday in a boat along the border.

CORAM, N.Y. (AP) — Police on Long Island, N.Y. say they're investigating the death early Saturday of a man who had locked himself and his mother in her home in Coram (KOHR'-um). According to police, 43-year-old Darryl Bain died after he tussled with officers and was zapped twice with a stun gun.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Police in Fayetteville, N.C. say they still do not know the whereabouts of 5-year-old Shaniya (shuh-'NY-uh) Davis. She was reported missing from a mobile home park on Tuesday. But authorities have charged her mother with human trafficking and other offenses.
