Afghanistan options...Soldier's body found...Pointing fingers

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama will meet with his national security team today to discuss four options for realigning U.S. strategy in Afghanistan. Military officials say the choices involve several ways the president can employ additional U.S. forces next year.

KABUL (AP) — NATO forces say military divers have found the body of one of two U.S. soldiers who disappeared last week in western Afghanistan. The paratroopers vanished while trying to recover airdropped supplies that had fallen into a river. A search continues for the other soldier.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A mystery over whether the military knew that Fort Hood shooting suspect Nidal Hasan was communicating with a radical Muslim imam has descended into finger-pointing. There are conflicting claims over whether a Defense Department investigator had looked into the Army major's contacts with the cleric.

TUALATIN, Ore. (AP) — An apparent case of domestic violence has left two people dead in suburban Portland, Ore. Police say a woman was shot and killed by her estranged husband, who also wounded two of her co-workers before turning the gun on himself. The shootings took place at a drug-testing laboratory.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Salt Lake City Council has unanimously passed a pair of ordinances making it illegal to discriminate against gays in housing and employment. The action had the backing of the Mormon Church, which remains steadfdast in its opposition to same-sex marriage.
