Officials: Lone wolf...Shooting admission...Koreas skirmish at sea

WASHINGTON (AP) — An investigative official says the Army psychiatrist accused of killing 13 people at Fort Hood and injuring 29 others acted along and without direction. Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is said to have had repeated communications with a radical cleric overseas. The communications, which were monitored, were deemed non-threatening.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — He says he did it. Anti-abortion activist Scott Roeder told The Associated Press that he killed Dr. George Tiller, a Kansas abortion provider. Roeder says he will argue during his trial that the killing was justified. Dr. Tiller was gunned down at his church in May.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korean military officers say navy ships from the South and North have exchanged shots along the disputed western sea border. One officer said there were no South Korean casualties. Another said that the North's ship was seriously damaged and turned back. The sea border has been in dispute since the 1950-53 civil war.

GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) — Some locations along the Gulf Coast are feeling the effects of Tropical Storm Ida. Forecasters expect the rare late-season storm to turn east after it makes landfall. They say it could generate high winds and up to eight inches of rain in some places.

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Testimony will begin Tuesday in Rhode Island in the wrongful death lawsuit filed against a hospital by actor James Woods. The suit contends that Woods' brother Michael died in 2006 because he didn't receive proper emergency care.
