Hasan meets with lawyer...Activist admits killing...Koreas skirmish

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Army psychiatrist accused of a mass shooting at Fort Hood has met with his lawyer at a Texas hospital where he's under guard. Meanwhile, officials say Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan acted alone and without direction, despite repeated electronic communications with a radical cleric.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — An anti-abortion activist facing trial for killing a Kansas abortion provider says he will argue that the killing was justified. Scott Roeder (ROH'-dur) says he has no regrets. Dr. George Tiller was gunned down at his church in May.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Some Senate Democrats opposed to abortion say they'll push for additional restrictions in the health care overhaul bill. House Democrats also demanded tough restrictions in exchange for their support. The legislation passed on a narrow 220-215 vote.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A South Korean military officer says a South Korean warship shot at a North Korean navy ship that crossed the two countries' disputed western sea border. The vessel from the North shot back. There's no word on casualties.

GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) — Tropical Storm Ida is about to bear down on the Gulf Coast. It's about 100 miles south-southwest of Mobile, Ala. Tropical storm warnings are up from Louisiana to Florida. Ida is expected to make landfall in a few hours and then turn east.
