Lawyer: Fair trial for Army doctor?...Ida approaching

KILLEEN, Texas (AP) — A lawyer representing the accused assailant in the Fort Hood shootings is expressing doubts that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan (nih-DAHL' mah-LEEK' hah-SAHN') can get a fair trial because of widespread publicity. Retired Col. John Galligan says he was contacted by Hasan's family. Galligan says he's asked investigators not to question his client.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The FBI is trying to determine if a suspected serial killer in Cleveland may have links to murders in other places where he lived while in the military. The remains of 11 people have been recovered at Anthony Sowell's home. He's a former Marine and was stationed in Japan, California and the Carolinas.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Homicide investigators are trying to determine if there was foul play in connection with an early morning fire in Oklahoma City that killed four people. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, a one-story brick home.

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — Tropical storm warnings are in effect across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Tropical Storm Ida is expected to come ashore tonight or early tomorrow. It's bringing the potential for strong winds and flooding.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (bahn kee-moon) is heading to Washington to encourage lawmakers to get on board with efforts to fight climate change. Ban is expected to meet with key senators and White House officials. Last week, Senate Democrats sidestepped a Republican boycott and pushed a climate bill out of a key committee.
