HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a west Michigan man was hospitalized with burns and other injuries after he tried to dispose of old fireworks by burning them in his backyard.
The Holland Sentinel reports the 79-year-old man was hospitalized after the explosion shortly before noon Sunday in Ottawa County's Holland Township.
Police responding to a report of a fire at the address were nearby at the time of the blast.
WWMT-TV reports the man is expected to recover. The Michigan State Police bomb squad helped dispose of the remaining fireworks.
The Ottawa County Prosecutor's office is considering charges against the man.
