NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Louisiana has declared a state of emergency and some Florida schools are closing in preparation for Hurricane Ida. The Category 2 storm is expected to weaken before hitting the Gulf Coast as early as Tuesday morning. A hurricane warning stretches across 200 miles of coastline from Mississippi to Florida.
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Officials say at least two people were killed by a collapsing building after a strong undersea earthquake rattled a remote Indonesian island. At least 20 more people were hospitalized after the 6.7-magnitude temblor. BAGHDAD (AP) — The U.S. military says two American pilots have died in a helicopter crash in Iraq. A military statement says the two pilots were killed on Sunday, during a "hard landing" north of Baghdad. WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham is dismissing the House-passed health care bill as "dead on arrival in the Senate." Graham tells CBS he thinks the government option "will destroy private health care." President Barack Obama is urging the Senate to "take the baton and bring this effort to the finish line." PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Pennsylvania's governor is declaring Philadelphia's transit strike over. Representatives of the transit system and its largest union signed a contract early Monday, ending the nearly week-old strike that shut down the city's subways, buses and trolleys.
