But a day after the House passed a landmark overhaul bill comes the realization that the measure could be in trouble in the Senate. Some moderate Democrats are objecting to the inclusion of a government health insurance plan.
FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) — An Army chaplain has asked mourners to pray for the accused Fort Hood shooter. He called on them to focus less on why the tragedy happened and more on helping each other through "the valley of the shadow of darkness." Col. Frank Jackson also asked the congregation to pray for the 13 dead and 29 wounded that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is accused of shooting. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The first Atlantic hurricane to target the United States this year is plodding toward the Gulf Coast with 100 mph winds. Hurricane Ida is bringing the threat of flooding and storm surges. A hurricane watch is extended over more than 200 miles of coastline. Louisiana's governor has declared a state of emergency. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Commuters in Philadelphia are being told to gear up for a second week of finding other ways of getting to work. A proposed deal to end a strike by about 5,000 bus drivers, subway and trolley conductors and mechanics collapsed this weekend. CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — The Lundberg Survey says the average price of regular gasoline in the United States has jumped nearly 3 cents over a two-week period to $2.68. Analyst Trilby Lundberg says the average price for a gallon of mid-grade was $2.81. Premium was at $2.93.
