MIAMI (AP) — Parts of the Gulf Coast could be feeling the effects of Hurricane Ida in the next 36 hours. A hurricane watch has been posted from Grand Isle, La., to the Mississippi-Alabama state line. Ida is now off Mexico's Caribbean coast, about 75 miles northeast of Cozumel, with winds of 90 mph.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee plans a congressional investigation of the shootings at Fort Hood. Joe Lieberman tells "Fox News Sunday" he wants to determine whether the shootings constitute a terrorist attack, and whether the Army missed warning signs about the Army psychiatrist accused in the rampage.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Army's chief of staff is warning against reaching conclusions about the Fort Hood shooter's motives until the investigation is complete. Gen. George Casey tells ABC that focusing on the suspect's Islamic roots could "heighten the backlash" against all Muslims in the military.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Congressional Democrats are celebrating House passage of a health care overhaul plan that Speaker Nancy Pelosi compares to the passage of Social Security in 1935 and Medicare 30 years later. The bill would require most Americans to carry insurance and provide federal subsidies to those who can't afford it. The Senate is still working on its version of the bill.

DOHA, Qatar (AP) — Attorney General Eric Holder says some decisions could be announced next week on which Guantanamo Bay detainees could face trial in American courts. He says officials are still reviewing which detainees will face prosecution and which can be returned to their homeland or a third country. Among those being held at Guantanamo are five accused Sept. 11 plotters.
