The Category 1 storm is expected to sweep between Cuba and Mexico before weakening in the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico issued hurricane and tropical storm warnings in parts of the Yucatan as the storm approaches.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A suicide bomber apparently targeting an anti-Taliban mayor in Pakistan has left at least 12 dead, including the mayor. The top official in Peshawar says Abdul Malik has "survived several attacks on his life," but today, "the militants have finally killed him."

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says she's working to prevent a possible wave of anti-Muslim sentiment after the shootings at Fort Hood in Texas. While in the United Arab Emirates, Napolitano says he agency is working with groups to deflect backlash after Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a Muslim, was accused in the attack that left 13 dead.
