WASHINGTON (AP) — The focus is shifting to the Senate for the next phase of the health care reform battle. The House passed its version last night by a tight, 220-215 vote. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada says there is a "strong will for reform that exists" for overhauling "our broken health insurance system."

After the vote, Obama hailed the measure and called Speaker Nancy Pelosi with congratulations. He also phoned leaders of the American Nurses Association, the American Medical Association and the seniors lobby AARP to thank them for their support. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court will consider whether sending juveniles to prison for life without parole is unconstitutionally cruel and unusual for crimes less than killings. The court hears arguments tomorrow about life without parole sentences for juveniles tried as adults for such crimes. Opponents say no other country allows life sentences for young offenders. States say they need the sentencing flexibility. SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) — China is promising $10 billion in new loans to African nations over the next three years. Premier Wen Jiabao (win jah-bow) also outlined a plan today to cancel government debts for some of the poorest African nations. TOKYO (AP) — Japan's foreign minister says President Barack Obama's visit this week won't produce a deal on relocating U.S. troops off the southern Japanese island of Okinawa. Okinawa residents have long been concerned about base-related crime, noise and environmental damage.
