WASHINGTON (AP) — The House is nearing a vote on legislation that would bring about a historic overhaul of the country's health care system. Majority Democrats have been working to assure enough votes within their own caucus, since Republicans are almost universally against the measure.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is delaying his departure for an overseas trip so he can attend a memorial service Tuesday honoring victims of the Fort Hood shootings. Obama used his Saturday radio and Internet address to mourn the loss of life and to also pay tribute to those who brought down the gunman in a hail of bullets.

ORLANDO (AP) — An attorney for the man accused of killing one person and injuring five in the Orlando, Fla. office shooting says the suspect suffers from mental problems. Authorities today charged 40-year-old Jason Rodriguez with first-degree murder. Rodriguez, who has many financial and personal problems, remains on suicide watch at the Orange County jail.

SHANKSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — In a solemn ceremony, relatives of Sept. 11 victims broke ground today for a memorial park at the western Pennsylvania site where United Flight 93 crashed. The government plans to complete the first phase of the memorial by Sept. 11, 2011, the 10th anniversary of the worst terrorist attack ever on U.S. soil.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Navy has commissioned an amphibious assault ship that was built with steel from the rubble of the World Trade Center. At a ceremony today, Navy Secretary Ray Maybus called the USS New York a symbol of healing and strength in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
