Ana Rodriguez told reporters today she is "so sorry." She spoke after a judge ordered her son, 40-year-old Jason Rodriguez, held without bail at the Orange County Jail in Orlando.

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) — A Texas Muslim leader says "something just didn't seem right" in his last conversation with the Army psychiatrist suspected of going on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood. Osman Danquah (oos-MAHN' dahn-KWAH') says he was sufficiently troubled that he recommended rejection of Nidal Malik Hasan's (nih-DAHL' mah-LEEK' hah-SAHNZ') request to become a lay Muslim leader for the post.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House of Representatives' longest-serving member ever is presiding over the debate on health care reform legislation. Rep. John Dingell replaced his late father in 1955 and has introduced his father's national health insurance bill every year since. The Michigan Democrat says many lawmakers have worked on the issue and "the nation will be grateful to us all."

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) — Finance officials from the Group of 20 nations are pledging to maintain emergency support for their economies until global recovery is assured. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner (GYT'-nur) says that the latest U.S. unemployment numbers show it's still "a very tough economic environment" and an abrupt halt to stimulus programs would weaken the economy.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The fat whorled pondsnail is no longer a candidate for the endangered species list. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has eliminated the snail, found in Utah, and three other species from consideration for listing under the Endangered Species Act. Five species are new candidates, though, including the rabbitsfoot mussel, which is found in only 49 streams in the country.
