In his weekly radio and Internet address on the weekend before Veterans Day, Obama tried to calm tensions around the suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, praising those who serve or have served in uniform and noting their diversity.

An executive at the engineering firm where a gunman opened fire says the rampage is "really a mystery" to them. Former employee Jason Rodriguez is accused in the shooting, which left one person dead and wounded five others. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A tentative contract will be voted on later today that could end the Philadelphia's transit strike. Buses, subways and trolleys have been idle for five days. Negotiators for Transport Workers Union Local 234 and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority tentatively agreed on a proposed contract late last night. The vote is at 2 p.m.
