ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Police in Orlando say the gunman responsible for killing one person and the injuries of five others at an engineering company was let go from the firm more than two years ago. Jason Rodriguez surrendered about three hours later at his mother's home. He told reporters his former employer left him to rot.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A relative of the suspected Fort Hood shooter says family members have met with the FBI and answered all their questions. A cousin of the alleged shooter says he has no idea why Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly opened fire on people at the Army post. WASHINGTON (AP) — Law enforcement officials say the weapon used in the Fort Hood shooting was purchased legally by the suspect at a Texas gun shop. The 5.7-millimeter was bought at a store in nearby Killeen called "Guns Galore." The pistol has been called a "cop killer" by those who have tried to stop its use. CAIRO (AP) — An international human rights group says it has documented three cases of sexual assault against male and female detainees arrested during Iran's postelection turmoil. Human Rights Watch says one of the cases was supported by an official report but that the investigation was dropped. NEW YORK (AP) — A government spokeswoman says an engine tailcone fell off a Delta Air Lines jet shortly after takeoff today from New York's Kennedy Airport. It landed harmlessly on a lawn in Long Island. The pilots didn't notice the problem. Experts say the jet, a Boeing 777, doesn't need the part to fly.
