MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) — A 32-year-old prisoner has been shot to death inside a suburban Detroit hospital's emergency room.
Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel says Roseville police arrested the Chesterfield Township resident Thursday night on warrants including probation violation. He was taken for a medical evaluation to Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center, where custody was transferred to a sheriff's deputy. Hackel says the prisoner escaped from the deputy, ran to the emergency room, grabbed a needle and continued running. Hackel says the deputy confronted the prisoner and shot him once after the prisoner, still holding the needle, lunged at him. Medical personnel were unable to revive the prisoner. The names of the deputy and prisoner weren't released late Thursday. Hackel says the deputy will be placed on leave while the shooting is investigated.
