Mass shooting, Doctor suspected...For and against health care reform

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) — A mass shooting has left 12 people dead and 31 others wounded at a processing center at the Army's Fort Hood, in central Texas. Officials say the shooter, an Army major, was killed. A Texas congressman says two soldiers who were detained have been released.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The military says the suspect who gunned down dozens of people at the Army's Fort Hood was a psychiatrist. He's been identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a Virginia native. Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison says Hasan was about to deployed overseas.

WASHINGTON (AP) — It's been a day of major support and opposition to health care reform. Two major organizations, the American Medical Association and the senior lobby AARP, have endorsed the reform effort. But thousands of demonstrators, organized by conservative groups, gathered at the Capitol to voice their opposition.

CLEVELAND (AP) — A Cleveland woman says she regrets not coming forth to report what she says was an attack by suspected serial killer Anthony Sowell. She says Sowell seemed like "a civilized person" when she went to his home for a beer, but he choked and threatened to kill her. Authorities say the remains of at least 11 victims have been recovered at the home where Sowell was living.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Former "Golden Girls" star Rue McClanahan is recovering from heart bypass surgery at a New York City hospital. McClanahan, who is 75, issued a statement saying she was having "some maintenance on the old ticker."
