NEW YORK (AP) — After a nine-year drought, the New York Yankees have won the World Series. The Bronx Bombers bested the Philadelphia Phillies last night, 7-3, in Game 6. New York City plans to host a ticker-tape parade and ceremony in honor of the Yankees tomorrow.

KABUL (AP) — The U.N. says it's temporarily relocating more than half of its international staff in Afghanistan, after last week's Taliban attack in Kabul left five staffers dead. The head of the U.N. mission there is stressing that most of those who will be relocated are support staff, not those doing humanitarian work, or leading urgent programs.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Three senators with differing political views are working behind the scenes to rescue troubled climate legislation. Democratic Sen. John Kerry, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman say they'll work with the White House to patch together a bill that could pass the Senate. Graham says, "The green economy is coming. We can either follow or lead."

MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) — Tropical Storm Ida is expected to swamp mainland Nicaragua later this morning after slamming the country's Corn Island. The storm, with 70-mile-an-hour winds, is threatening to become a hurricane before making landfall.

CHIPLEY, Fla. (AP) — The mother of a missing baby is among the three people who investigators say they plan to charge in the child's disappearance. The 7-month-old, who had been missing for five days, was found alive in a box under her baby sitter's bed. Authorities say they also plan to charge the baby sitter and her husband.
