NEW YORK (AP) — After nearly a decade, the New York Yankees are baseball's best again. New York beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in Game 6. Hideki Matsui (hih-DEK'-ee mat-SOO'-ee) tied a World Series record by driving in six runs. The Yankees wrapped up the Series in their new $1.5 billion ballpark.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The 40-million member AARP is expected to endorse the health care reform package that could be up for a floor vote in the House Saturday. In 2003, the seniors' lobby helped push the Medicare prescription drug benefit through a closely divided Congress. Meanwhile, officials say President Barack Obama will visit the Capitol Friday to lobby for the overhaul.

MIR ALI, Pakistan (AP) — Two intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike has killed two alleged militants in a tribal region in Pakistan. The attack site is not far from South Waziristan, an al-Qaida and Taliban stronghold under assault by the Pakistani army.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sens. John Kerry, Lindsey Graham, and Joe Lieberman are working behind the scenes to jump start stalled climate change legislation. Kerry says the trio hopes to broaden the base of support for the legislation. Its goal is to reduce heat-trapping gases by 83 percent by 2050.

NEW YORK (AP) — The latest retail sales numbers, to be released Thursday, are expected to offer more proof of a spending recovery. Major retailers, ranging from Target to Macy's, are expected to show a second consecutive monthly gain in sales.
