DETROIT (AP) — The sentencing of former Detroit Councilwoman Monica Conyers for taking bribes has been delayed.
Conyers' sentencing hearing has been moved from Dec. 1 to Jan. 15, 2010.
U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn issued a brief order Wednesday, saying both Conyers and federal prosecutors agreed to the delay in "the interests of justice."
Conyers admitted in federal court in June to taking cash from a Houston-based company in exchange for her vote on a 2007 sludge-treatment contract. Her plea in part was the result of a two-year federal investigation into Detroit City Hall corruption.
The wife of Democratic congressman John Conyers faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Monica Conyers is free on bond and has resigned from the city council.
