Cadillac Businesses Kick Off 14 Month Food Drive » View Picture » Play Video » Feedback (1)
Twenty-thousand pounds of donated food are coming to Cadillac each month for the next 14 months thanks to a group of Cadillac businesses and foundations.
The goal is to feed 200 families every two weeks, giving each 50 pounds of food. The food drive is part of the Feed America campaign. Donated food will come from Gleaners Food Bank and local groups are responsible for sponsoring the cost of transporting the food and staffing the drop-offs. The idea came from a one-time food drop-off in late August where 600 families showed up for food meant for 200 families. Local leaders decided the need was there and they worked on finding the means to meet it. "We started with our friends and families and businesses - no one's said no," says Mickey Putman, one of drive's chief organizers. "[People] need the help and we can help them." The food will be dropped off at the Goodwill store's parking lot on North Mitchell street in Cadillac on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month. 9&10's Michael Kasiborski has more on the Cadillac community's commitment to food drive.
