DETROIT (AP) — Charles Pugh and the other newly elected Detroit City Council members will go through two days of orientation to prepare them for their new jobs.
Pugh says the training begins Dec. 1.
He received the most votes in Tuesday's nonpartisan primary and will serve as council president. The former TV anchor says he already is studying how the board works to help prepare for his term that begins in early January.
Pugh also expects to take the oath of office in mid-December.
He is one of five new faces on the council; four of the five incumbents on Tuesday's ballot kept their jobs. Current president Ken Cockrel Jr. finished fourth in votes.
Pugh promises a more cohesive board and says how the council presents itself begins with his leadership.
