Road Millages Fail, but Group Continues the Fight » View Picture » Play Video » Feedback (1)
A campaign to repair local, beat up roads in two Grand Traverse County townships fell short of its goal.
Voters said "no" to a road millage in East Bay and Acme Townships. The issue was added to the ballot after a group of people got together and decided something had to be done to fix the local roads. Both millages failed by more than 60 percent. The leader in the group says the fight is not over. She says the group will continue to meet and try to find a solution. "We have had so many encouraging responses from last night to early this morning," says Renee Kaufman. "Yeah we're not going to stop." Kaufman says they may consider campaigning for a county-wide millage, which the road commission has already requested to be added to the ballot next fall. If county-wide road millage passes, the money raised would go towards fixing up the local roads within the county that are in the worst shape. 9&10's Ryan Raiche and Photojournalist Jeremy Erickson have more on the failed millages.
