Posted: 11/4/2009

WASHINGTON (AP) — Three senators are launching a rescue effort for a troubled climate bill. Democrat John Kerry, Republican Lindsey Graham and Independent Joseph Lieberman say they'll work to patch together legislation that could pass the Senate. A bill that would impose mandatory limits on greenhouse gases has been stalled in committee by a Republican boycott.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Associated Press has learned that the seniors' lobby AARP will endorse the health care reform bill prepared by House Democrats. Officials with knowledge of the group's decision say an announcement is expected tomorrow. Floor votes on the $1.2 trillion measure could come as early as this weekend.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Reserve is warning that rising joblessness and hard-to-get-credit could restrain the economic recovery in the months ahead, so it's leaving its bank lending rate at zero to 0.25 percent. But, the Fed says economic activity has "continued to pick up" and a key ingredient to the recovery, the housing market, also has grown stronger.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department says it's disappointed by an Italian court's conviction of 23 Americans in absentia for the kidnapping of an Egyptian cleric in Milan six years ago. The case involved the CIA's extraordinary rendition program in the war on terror. Prosecutors identified all but one of the defendants as CIA agents.

NEW YORK (AP) — A new study confirms that the Internet and mobile phones are not linked to social isolation. The study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project concludes that e-mail, blogging and frequenting Internet hangouts can lead to larger and more diverse social networks. The study refutes reports suggesting the growing use of technology comes at the expense of human connections.
