Family and Friends Say Final Goodbye to Fallen Soldier

Friends and family are paying their final respects to Army Specialist Brandon Steffey at his funeral today.

He was killed more than a week ago by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

Steffey grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Brimley High School in 2005.

He joined the Army in 2006 and served two tours of duty overseas. He worked with the military police as a K9 handler in Afghanistan.

Visitation started at noon today at Sault Area High School. His funeral, along with full military honors begins at 4:00.

Steffey leaves behind a wife and young daughter.

We will have continuing coverage on today's memorial coming up tonight on 9&10 News.

I was there today with the PGR for the funeral of this hero. Soo, you can be very proud of you school kids. They showed so much respect when Brandon was taken to the school. This was the hardest funeral I have been to, as a PGR member. Brandon, you are a credit to the Military Police Corps, the US Army and to this nation. Rest in peace, hero.

I was there today with my daughter and all the other high school kids that were lining the entrance to the school. I was so proud of these kids and how they showed so much respect for SPC Steffey. My heart goes out to all involved and please know our prayers are with everyone .

I was there today at the high school and I was amazed with all the support I saw from the community. I did not know Brandon but I gave my respect to his family. He'll always be remembered!!!
