HOUGHTON, Mich. (AP) — A man has been charged with setting fire to an apartment building in July in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, killing four people.
Forty-seven-year-old Ronald Kemppainen (KEMP'-ah-nen) was arraigned Monday on four counts of felony murder and one count of arson.
Kemppainen used to live in the apartment building in Hancock. Police say the Calumet man was arrested on a parole violation the morning the structure burned.
The July 25 blaze killed 54-year-old Robert MacDonald, 61-year-old John Hoganson, 43-year-old Troy Woods and 38-year-old Anita White.
Hancock police Lt. Randy Mayra tells The Daily Mining Gazette investigators ruled last month the fire was intentionally set.
Kemppainen's lawyer, David Gemignani, declined to comment.
