The body of a Chippewa County Army Specialist killed in Afghanistan returned home this morning.
Specialist Brandon Steffey grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Brimley High School in 2005.
A plan carrying Steffey's body flew in this morning. People lined the streets along the procession route to show their support.
A roadside bomb killed the local hero a week ago in Afghanistan.
You will hear from some of the people who showed up to honor Steffey this morning coming up in continuing coverage tonight on 9&10 News at 5:00 and 6:00.
I went to Middle and High School with Brandon. He was one of the most kind, caring, and gentle people I have ever met. His sacrifice is a great loss but one that was not in vain. He's a true hero and will always be remembered as such. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
My husband and I attended this mornings funeral procession waiting in the down town area for 2 and half hours in the cold and drizzle and to see all the community members that were out there with us really moved me and it was worth every second in order to pay respects to SPC Steffey and his family and fellow soldiers and friends. Thank you to him and to his family for paying the ultimate sacrifice for our protection, may God be with you in your time of need God Bless SPC Steffey and the USA!
When i went to work this morning at the Chippewa County International Airport I didnt know I was gonna be in tears within the first 2 hours of being there. Just minutes after marshalling in the aircraft that held the casket of Brandon i couldnt help it. Thank you for everything you have done for us Brandon!!! My heart and prayers go out to the family!
I was moved to tears watching the procession this morning. I didn't know Brandon personally, but felt like it was family. God bless Brandon, his family and America
I was honered to be a part of the service this morning. It touched my heart very deeply and gave me more awareness to the life behind our service members. What an incredible man Brandon was and hero that he has become.
My drive in the procession was very emotional as I watched the faces of those paying respects.
We have an awesome community!
What a wonderful sight it was to see the people lining the streets today to thank Spec Brandon Steffey! God Bless everyone who stopped for a moment to honor him. Love and prayers to his family.
