Runoff canceled...Pay day bombing...Auditing KBR

KABUL (AP) — The chief officer on Afghanistan's election commission says Saturday's presidential runoff has been canceled. President Hamid Karzai had already effectively secured a second term when his only challenger, former Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah, dropped out of the race yesterday. Abdullah had complained the vote wouldn't be free or fair.

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AP) — A pay day attack against a Pakistani bank has left at least 30 people dead near the capital of Islamabad. The suicide bombing wounded dozens more. The bank is near the army's headquarters and a soldier wounded in the attack says many of those waiting in line were from the military.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Pentagon auditors are warning contractor KBR to cut its work force in Iraq, or face nearly $200 million in penalties. The audit says the Houston-based company has kept thousands too many employees on the payroll, while U.S. troops steadily leave the country. The result -- the U.S. government is paying far more in labor costs in Iraq than it should.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama meets with his economic advisory board today as the administration hopes to ignite a strong recovery. The 16-member board is headed by former Fed chief Paul Volcker and includes top leaders of business and labor.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) — A man suspected of shooting and killing four men in a North Carolina parking lot is being held in a Virginia jail. Police say Marcos Chavez Gonzalez was arrested early this morning after authorities got information about his whereabouts around 2:30 a.m. Gonzalez is wanted in the killings of four men outside a Mount Airy, N.C. TV shop.
