Petty Officer First Class Allison Conroy said there was little chance of finding survivors and the active search has been suspended.

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (AP) — Police in northwestern North Carolina and in Virgina are on alert for a gunman suspected of killing four men with an assault rifle. The shooting happened in the parking lot of a television store in the town of Mount Airy, N.C. Sunday afternoon. Police have pointed to a motive but say the shooting was not random.

SEATTLE (AP) — Police investigators in Seattle have few leads in a drive-by shooting that killed a veteran office and left a trainee injured. The shooting happened downtown on Halloween night. Someone opened fire on the officer's cruiser while it was parked.

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — Vietnam authorities have ordered the evacuation of coastal areas because of the approach of tropical storm Mirinae. The stormed battered the Philippines, where it left 20 people dead. Vietnamese authorities have evacuated 20,000 people from coastal provinces.
