Abudllah's decision...7 dead in Iraq..."Gratifying" win

KABUL (AP) — President Hamid Karzai's campaign is calling challenger Abdullah Abdullah's decision to drop out of next weekend's runoff election "very unfortunate." Former Foreign Minister Abdullah announced the move after he says Karzai turned down his proposals to prevent fraud in the Nov. 7 vote. Karzai's camp says despite Abudllah's decision, the elections have to go on.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Violence in Iraq has left at least 10 dead and dozens more injured. In Iraq's Babil province, a bicycle bombing at a market has killed five people. Authorities say at least five others were killed in violence across the country.

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Vietnam is ordering residents in high-risk areas to begin evacuating as a storm blamed for 20 deaths in the Philippines barrels toward Vietnam. Both nations are struggling to recover from previous storms blamed for more than 1,000 deaths.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia transit system and its largest union will be back at the negotiating table tonight. The union, which was threatening to strike ahead of Game 3 of the World Series, has agreed to keep talking. The union's president says he expects to get a contract "very soon."

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte is calling last night's win against the Philadelphia Phillies on their home turf "very gratifying." The Yankees gained a 2-1 lead in the World Series after their 8-5 victory. Pettitte calls the win "an absolute grind."
