ROMEO, Mich. (AP) — Federal authorities have arrested a Mexican native wanted for sex crimes allegedly committed 15 years ago in Oregon.
Agent Andrew Patterson of U.S. Customs and Border Protection says 49-year-old Virginio Medrano-DeLaTorre of Romeo was jailed pending extradition proceedings following his arrest Wednesday. Morrow County, Ore., police say DeLaTorre say an arrest warrant issued in 1994 accused DeLaTorre of sex offenses involving a 14-year-old female. U.S. Customs says Romeo police were called to a home after Child Protective Services workers reported taking custody of the man's 10-year-old daughter for a pending domestic investigation. DeLaTorre told officers at the Romeo police station he couldn't speak English. Border Patrol agents called in to translate fingerprinted DeLaTorre and ran a records check that showed he had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Oregon. ___ Information from: The Macomb Daily, http://www.macombdaily.com
