Posted: 10/30/2009

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Prosecutors say a former Belding mayor faces up to 30 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to defrauding a western Michigan bank out of $36,000.

U.S. Attorney Donald Davis said in a statement Wednesday that Shane Husted admitted to defrauding his former employer, First Bank of West Michigan.

Husted said he used confidential information provided by bank customers to apply for and receive loans for his own personal benefit.

Husted was released on bond. A sentencing date has not been sent.

Belding is located in Ionia County, about 120 miles west-northwest of Detroit.
