The H1N1 virus is leading some schools to cancel sporting events this week. The Michigan High School Athletic Association is leaving it up to individual districts to decide whether to hold scheduled events.
Both Cheboygan and the Traverse City Area Public School Districts chose to cancel sports this week. They say they're taking advice from the health department.
The purpose of closing the schools was to stop the spread of the illness. By canceling sporting events, they say that will eliminate big crowds.
While TCAPS didn't have many sporting events this week, Cheboygan High School canceled a soccer game. By forfeiting, their season is now over. The districts say they are just looking out for the health of the students.
