MIAMI (AP) — President Barack Obama is predicting that Congress will approve an overhaul of the health care system. But speaking at two fundraisers in Miami, Obama also warned that major industries such as insurance companies will fight hard to prevent it. He spoke after Senate leaders endorsed legislation that would add publicly run health insurance to an overhaul plan.
KABUL (AP) — Officials say a U.S. military helicopter that crashed Monday in Afghanistan had been returning from the scene of a firelight in western Afghanistan with suspected Taliban drug traffickers. Ten Americans, including three federal agents, were killed. Four more troops were killed when two helicopters collided over southern Afghanistan. QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — Police say Pakistan has released 11 Iranian security officers held near the countries' border. The Iranians were accused of illegally crossing the border. Their arrest followed a recent deadly suicide attack in Iran that Tehran alleges has links to Pakistani intelligence officials. WASHINGTON (AP) — Two Northwest Airlines pilots who flew 150 miles past a landing in Minneapolis could soon be out of work. The pilots say they were using their laptops. Delta, which owns Northwest, says that's a violation of the airline's policy and is punishable by termination. KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Police in Malaysia now say three, not 22, children are feared drowned following the collapse of a footbridge at a camp. Officials say they were mistaken when they released the earlier number.
