Some Northern Michigan State Troopers are celebrating a big win for their shooting skills.

The seventh-district team won the Fletcher Match Award for excellence in marksmanship.

Four troopers from the Alpena, Traverse City, Houghton Lake and Kalkaska posts took home the title.

State Trooper teams from throughout the state compete to see who's on top.

Trooper Jim Able from Kalkaska has taken first place several times.

"I may have the advantage of experience, but there's a lot of really good shooters there, and you really never know who's going to win this thing," Tpr. Able said.

Trooper Abel says marksmanship improves their skills as officers, builds teamwork and camaraderie.
