KABUL (AP) — It's been more than four years since this many Americans were killed on a single day in Afghanistan. Two helicopter crashes have left 14 Americans dead -- 11 troops and three drug agents. The agents and seven of the troops died when a chopper went down after leaving the scene of a firefight.
BAGHDAD (AP) — Hospital and police officials say 24 children were among the 155 people killed in twin suicide blasts yesterday. The attacks targeted government buildings in Baghdad. An official at the hospital where the children's bodies were brought says they were on a bus leaving a daycare center next to the Justice Ministry when the attack happened. The bus driver was also killed. TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — It's the first official indication that Iran could be at least partly on board. The country's foreign minister says Iran may agree to ship part of its stockpile of uranium overseas for further enrichment. A plan drafted by the U.N. calls for Iran to do that with much of its uranium, as a way for other countries to make sure Iran isn't using the material for a nuclear weapon. NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks have given up their early gains. They moved solidly higher in early trading, before a rising dollar put a stop to a rally in commodities. After gaining about 100 points early, the Dow was down by about the same amount in early afternoon trading. WASHINGTON (AP) — An analysis of global temperatures by independent statisticians shows the Earth is still warming and not cooling as some global warming skeptics are claiming. The analysis was conducted at the request of The Associated Press. Talk of a cooling trend has been spreading on the Internet, fueled by some news reports, a new book, and temperatures that have been cooler in a few recent years.
