BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) — Twin bombings in downtown Baghdad have left at least 136 people dead and hundreds more wounded. Officials say suicide bombers blew up their vehicles near two government buildings. There have been no claims of responsibility so far, but massive car bombs have been the hallmark of Sunni insurgents seeking to overthrow the country's Shiite-dominated government.
JERUSALEM (AP) — Protesters have left Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque, where they'd been holed up for several hours. Earlier, Israeli forces fired stun grenades to disperse hundreds of stone-throwing Palestinians. The mosque is part of Jerusalem's holiest shrine, known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary. KABUL (AP) — President Hamid Karzai and his challenger, Abdullah Abdullah, are ruling out a power-sharing deal before Afghanistan's Nov. 7 runoff. Both were interviewed by CNN. Meanwhile, NATO says an American has been killed by a bomb, becoming the 34th U.S. service member killed in Afghanistan this month. WASHINGTON (AP) — Top lawmakers are sparring over the timing of President Barack Obama's decision on how to proceed in Afghanistan. Republicans want a quick move to boost troop levels, while Democrats are asking for patience. But on the Sunday morning talk shows, senators from both parties agreed on the need to support whatever Afghan government emerges from next month's presidential runoff. ORANGE PARK, Fla. (AP) — Two events are being held today to raise money for the family of the 7-year-old Florida girl whose body was found in a landfill, and for a reward fund. A public viewing and private funeral for Somer Thompson are scheduled for tomorrow and Tuesday. Investigators say they're pursuing more than 1,000 tips in the case.
