Deadly Baghdad blasts...Militant attacks continue in Pakistan

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) — Police say at least 38 people are dead and dozens wounded in explosions near the Ministry of Justice and the offices of a Kurdish political party in downtown Baghdad. The blasts went off less than a minute apart during the morning rush hour as people headed to work.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A suicide bomber killed a police officer today on a highway south of Pakistan's capital, Islamabad. Police say the car had been stopped by police and one man fled, but was captured. The other detonated the bomb. The man in custody says they had been planning to blow up the car in Lahore, Pakistan's second largest city.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency. Health authorities say more than 1,000 people in the United States, including almost 100 children, have died and 46 states have widespread flu activity. Vaccine production is behind schedule.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico could get federal aid after an explosion at a fuel-storage site. President Barack Obama has declared Puerto Rico an emergency zone. Residents nearby have been urged to relocate to avoid toxic smoke still billowing from the fire.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man got away with it once but when he went back to show his friend how he got into his apartment he fell five stories from a balcony. Authorities say Zachary Nimhauser is in serious, but stable condition. Police say he made the climb down one story once after locking himself out of his apartment.
