Swine flu emergency declared...Israeli police raid temple mount

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's declaration of a national swine flu emergency could help keep sufferers out of regular hospital emergency rooms. His health chief now has the power to let hospitals move swine flu treatment offsite. Officials say the declaration is not in response to specific developments.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli police fired stun grenades to disperse demonstrators at Jerusalem's holiest site for both Muslims and Jews. Israeli police say its forces raided the temple mount after Palestinian demonstrators pelted them with stones. Police say they arrested 12 demonstrators. Palestinians have been beset by rumors Jewish extremists are planning to harm the site.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — A team of U.N. inspectors will visit Iran's recently revealed but still unfinished uranium enrichment facility. The team will try to verify Iran's claim that it is for peaceful purposes. Iran denies allegations it is trying to make nuclear weapons.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Two police officers in California are under investigation after officials viewed a video that shows an unarmed university student being hit repeatedly. The San Jose State math major was being arrested on suspicion of assaulting a roommate. The San Jose Mercury News posted the cell phone video on its Web site.

BEIRUT (AP) — Even hummus is a cause for disagreement in the Middle East. Lebanese chefs prepared a massive plate of the popular Middle Eastern dip Saturday that broke a world record organizers said was previously held by Israel. The batch weighed more than two tons. Lebanon says Israel is trying to market hummus as an Israeli concoction.
