TOKYO (AP) — The chairman of the U.S. joint chiefs of staff says Japan must act urgently on a base relocation issue. Adm. Mike Mullen says a decision on moving a major U.S. Marine base in Okinawa needs to happen as soon as possible so a realignment of U.S. troops in the country can move forward on time.
BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP) — NATO defense ministers will hear from an unexpected guest at their meeting in Slovakia today. Officials say Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, will offer his views on the Afghan war. The ministers are focused on making Afghan security forces responsible for fighting the war. ISLAMABAD (AP) — There have been two more bomb attacks in Pakistan. A lone suicide bomber on a bicycle struck a checkpoint near a major air force complex about 30 miles from the capital, Islamabad. Seven people were killed. And in the northwestern city of Peshawar, police say a bomb has exploded in a restaurant parking lot, wounding eight. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A neighborhood outside of Puerto Rico's capital has been shaken by an explosion at an oil facility. Authorities say the cause of the blast and the scale of the damage and injuries are not immediately clear. Several tanks are on fire and emergency workers are trying to prevent further explosions. Some evacuations are under way. LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 19-year-old Norwegian is the new Monopoly world champion. The key moves in the final came when his opponent landed on Pacific Avenue and North Carolina Avenue and was unable to afford the $1,600 rent. The winner gets $20,580 -- the amount in the bank of a standard Monopoly game. The championship was held in Las Vegas.
