ORANGE PARK, Fla. (AP) — Registered sex offenders in the Orange Park, Fla., area are being questioned in the death of 7-year-old Somer Thompson. Her body was found in a Georgia landfill yesterday two days after she disappeared. No word yet of any suspects.

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah (AP) — An F-16 fighter that ran into trouble reportedly jettisoned two 500-pound bombs and two fuel tanks before landing at Hill Air Force Base in Utah. One of the bombs appears to have hit an empty tin shack on the base.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Crew members of a Northwest Airlines plane that overshot Minneapolis airport last night say they were involved in a heated discussion. Investigators will look into pilot fatigue. The jet flew 150 miles past Minneapolis before turning around.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Top executives at seven companies may wonder if there's a zero missing from their paychecks. The administration's pay czar is limiting their cash salaries to $500,000 in most cases. All seven companies got federal bailout money.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Census Bureau is having problems with its plans to count same-sex couples in next year's national head count. The legal state of same-sex relationships is still evolving, which it's feared could lead to an inaccurate tally.
