Suicide bombing in Pakistan...Afghan runner-up fine with interim deal

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) — At least four people have been killed and 20 wounded in a suicide bombing at a university cafeteria for women. No group claimed responsibility for the attack at Islamic university in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. Authorities are braced for more attacks now that the army is on a major offensive against a militant sanctuary near the Afghan border.

KABUL (AP) — The runner-up in Afghanistan's disputed presidential election says an interim government would be fine to guide the country through the harsh winter until a runoff can be held. U.S. Sen. John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with President Hamid Karzai and his rival, Abdullah Abdullah today to discuss the issue.

VIENNA (AP) — Talks with Iran over its nuclear program have bogged down over who's invited. Diplomats say Iran is fiercely resisting French participation. Diplomats are trying to persuade Iran to send most of its enriched uranium abroad — and thus delay its potential to make a nuclear weapon.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Iraq's leader is in Washington today to meet with President Barack Obama. Nouri al-Maliki (NOO'-ree ahl-MAHL'-ih-kee) has an Oval Office session scheduled this morning. Obama also plans to honor 86 Army veterans receiving a Presidential Unit Citation for actions in Vietnam.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The Navy says one of its warships has intercepted a skiff carrying about four tons of hashish off the Horn of Africa. The navy says the seizure happened in an area infested by Somali pirates and smugglers. U.S. forces have dubbed the stretch of the Indian Ocean the "Hash Highway."
