Deadly blast in Islamabad...Interim deal for Afghan winter...Insurance worries

KABUL (AP) — The runner-up in Afghanistan's disputed presidential election says an interim government might work as a temporary solution to guide the country through the winter. The possibility of a runoff between former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah and President Hamid Karzai emerged after a U.N.-backed panel threw out a third of President Hamid Karzai's votes.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistan's capital has been hit by another deadly explosion. Police and a witness say at least two people have been killed in two blasts at the campus of the International Islamic University in Islamabad. Students from around the world attend the campus, mostly to take Islamic studies.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A new poll says the number of Americans worried about losing their health insurance has been on a steady rise since the health care reform debate began last spring. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation poll also finds conflicting views on how much good, if any, health care reform will do.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's foreign minister says the fate of three American hikers detained in late July after straying into Iran rests with judicial authorities. The official says the three still face questioning, suggesting that formal charges are still possible against them.

LOS CABOS, Mexico (AP) — Tropical Storm Rick is being blamed for two deaths at the tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. Even though it's weakened from its Category 5 hurricane status, Rick is still sending in dangerously big waves and a tropical storm warning has been issued.
