FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado sheriff says last week's balloon drama was all a scheme cooked up to net a reality show deal for the Heene (HEE'-nee) family. Sheriff Jim Alderden says the parents "put on a very good show" when they reported their 6-year-old was inside a helium balloon flying out of control. He turned up unhurt hours later. After hearing the sheriff's accusations, Richard Heene welled up with tears and said "This thing has become so convoluted."

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — UConn coach Randy Edsall says his team is heartbroken and devastated over the death of Jasper Howard. The 20-year-old cornerback was stabbed to death outside a university-sponsored dance early this morning. Edsall says Howard was going to be a father and a punter says teammates will make sure the child has over 100 uncles.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — An attorney for the family of one of three people who died in an Arizona sweat lodge earlier this month says the relatives of Liz Neuman plan to sue over her death. The lawyer says Neuman "left this world way too soon." The Minnesota woman was a follower of self-help expert James Arthur Ray, who held the sweat lodge ceremony as part of his retreat.

BAGHDAD (AP) — At least five people are dead after a motorcycle bombing at a popular Baghdad cafe. Iraqi police say the blast also injured 16 civilians. Hospital officials say the majority of the wounded are young men.

NEW YORK (AP) — Gourmet magazine will get a proper sendoff today at New York's "Great Gathering of Chefs." Conde Nast has announced it's closing the magazine after next month's issue. Gourmet's staff will be presented a "golden fork" at the event, which is expected to include celebrity chefs Emeril Lagasse (EM'-ur-ul leh-GAH'-see) and Eric Ripert.
