FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado sheriff says his office will file criminal charges in the case of a 6-year-old boy who hid in his garage while the world thought he was adrift in a helium balloon. The sheriff isn't saying who would be charged or what the charges would be, but does say the boy's parents aren't under arrest.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police say a Los Angeles woman shot her two young sons today, killing a 5-year-old boy and critically wounding his 1-year-old brother. Police say when officers arrived at the apartment complex, the woman was waving a handgun and telling them to shoot her. She was tackled and taken into custody. OTISVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — A New York woman who died last week at a sauna-like sweat lodge at an Arizona retreat is being remembered by a longtime family friend and retired priest as a spiritual seeker. More than 100 people attended Kirby Brown's funeral today in Otisville, N.Y. MEXICO CITY (AP) — Forecasters say Hurricane Rick could strike the Baja (BAH'-hah) California Peninsula next week. Rick has strengthened into an "extremely dangerous" Category 5 storm off Mexico's Pacific coast. It has sustained winds of 160 mph but forecasters say it will likely lose steam before hitting the peninsula. SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say they've called off the search for Capt. Nicholas Giglio (JEEL'-ee-oh), who has been missing since his fighter jet collided with another fighter over the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday. Air Force officials say the missing pilot likely died instantly in the collision.
