Ground offensive...Fraud investigation...Hurricane Rick

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan (AP) — More than 30,000 Pakistani soldiers have launched a ground offensive against militants along the Afghan border. The U.N. says it's prepared to help civilians fleeing the offensive, which is expected to last two months. Local intelligence officials say 11 suspected insurgents have been killed while the military is reporting at least four soldiers have been killed.

KABUL (AP) — International pressure is mounting on Afghan President Hamid Karzai to respect findings from a fraud investigation into August's presidential elections. The results could come as early as today and are expected to force a runoff between Karzai and top challenger Abdullah Abdullah.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has his sights set on the health insurance industry as he makes another Saturday pitch for his overhaul. During his weekly radio and Internet address, he said the industry is "filling the airwaves with deceptive and dishonest ads." In the GOP address, Texas Rep. Kevin Brady argued that government interference in health care will drive costs up.

MIAMI (AP) — Forecasters say Hurricane Rick could strengthen into a Category 5 storm as it gains steam out in the Pacific. Rick grew into an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm early this morning about 250 miles off the Mexican coast. Officials in Acapulco have issued a warning that Rick's outskirts could trigger landslides and flooding.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Larry Birkhead has testified that Anna Nicole Smith "took more medications" than he's ever seen anyone take. The father of Smith's daughter was testifying in a preliminary hearing of a doctor charged with conspiring to provide the ex-model with controlled substances. Before the hearing recessed for the weekend, Birkhead testified he was worried Smith was taking too many medications.
