WASHINGTON (AP) — The head of the Senate Intelligence Committee says the U.S. mission in Afghanistan is in "serious jeopardy" and more troops must be committed. That view puts Sen. Diane Feinstein (FYN'-styn) at odds with Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin, who says he doesn't want to send any more combat troops "at this time." Feinstein was on ABC and Levin on NBC.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan is striking back at militants after a week of terror strikes across Pakistan, including a deadly assault on army headquarters. Intelligence officials say at least five insurgents have been killed in airstrikes today in South Waziristan. The information minister is vowing to pursue the terrorists "wherever they will be."

JERUSALEM (AP) — Special Mideast envoy George Mitchell is returning to Washington without having persuaded the Israelis and Palestinians to resume peace talks. Mitchell spent more than an hour with Israel's prime minister and defense minister today in Jerusalem and left without commenting.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Gay and lesbian activists and their supporters are rallying in Washington today. Among them is Lt. Dan Choi, a West Point graduate and Iraq war veteran who is facing discharge from the Army for revealing that he's gay. He says he's now "fighting at home for equal and full protection under the law."

MOSCOW (AP) — Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte (gee lah-lee-behr-TAY') has put on his red clown nose again -- this time, for a welcome-back celebration at the cosmonaut training facility near Moscow. The space tourist wore the nose while visiting the International Space Station, and he had it on again when he emerged from the Russian spacecraft that returned him to Earth today with two other space travelers.
