PARIS (AP) — French military officials say pirates attacked two fishing boats in the Indian Ocean today, but French soldiers protecting the trawlers returned fire and forced the assailants to flee. One official says coast guard vessels from nearby Seychelles chased the pirates and disabled the engine of a boat that appeared to be their mothership. NATO says 11 suspected pirates were captured. MANILA, Philippines (AP) — The U.S. military has brought in supplies and marshaled helicopters and Navy ships as the Philippines struggles with the aftermath of back-to-back storms that have left more than 600 dead.
