Vibrant Fall Colors Translates to Big Business » View Picture » Play Video » Feedback (0)
Temperatures are down but business is up as northern Michigan fall colors continue to drive in traffic.
Historically, October weekends are huge for fall tourist hot spots like wineries. And this year it's no different. Even in northern Leelanau and Grand Traverse Counties where the colors are a little slow to change this year, businesses say they're still seeing big crowds. "Fall weekends are really the busiest time of year for wineries," says Margaret and David Bell, Owners of the new Circa Winery in Lake Leelanau. "October Saturday's are really game busters." The Bell's attribute most of the increased business to the fall colors -- and others agree. "I think it's almost the biggest single factor," says Chris Baldyga, Owner of Two Lads Winery on Old Mission Peninsula. "The first three, four weekends in October just smash. The best sales day of the year." 9&10's Ryan Raiche and Photojournalist Justin DePrekel have the story.
